Synergies Between Climate Adaptation and Land Degradation Neutrality

Sustainable stewardship of land is vital for both climate change mitigation and adaptation. Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) offers a framework for optimizing land use and management decisions to achieve a balance between the degradation of land and its restoration, ensuring no net loss of healthy and productive land. LDN can thus help accelerate the achievement of climate adaptation and vice versa. Experts claim that National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) offer an opportunity for linking climate adaptation and LDN.

From the session, NAP practitioners will:

• Learn about the commonalities between the NAP process and the LDN objectives and the benefits from linking the two processes;
• Have the opportunity to share their experiences, expertise and perceived barriers of planning and implementing national adaptation activities that reflect on LDN and thus enable peer learning among countries; 
• Become aware of different opportunities and entry points for promoting and implementing synergy between adaptation and LDN within the NAP process that are most suitable for their context and current phase within the NAP process.
