When: 22 - 26 August 2022
Where: Gaborone, South-East, Botswana
Botswana Climate Adaptation Week 2022 will take place from 22 to 26 August 2022 in Gaborone. It has four main components:
- NAP Expo 2022: convening for the seventh time since 2013, the meeting will be held under the overall theme, ‘Transformations to Adapt.’ The event features a mix of plenary and thematic sessions, workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, and networking opportunities to catalyze the promotion and creation of transformative approaches, ideas, and practices in climate change adaptation. The event is organized by the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Expert Group (LEG) under the UNFCCC, in collaboration with various bodies and organizations, to promote exchange of experiences and foster partnerships between a wide range of actors and stakeholders on how to advance National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
- Resilience Frontiers: A first of its kind, this UN interagency effort moves the world’s collective thinking beyond the dystopian paradigms created by today’s challenges and into a desirable future of permanent resilience. The brainstorming meeting in Gaborone will bring together a diverse range of thought leaders and organizations and will unpack the eight pathways, deconstructing paradigms, and the visions and values underpinning these, to drive the narrative towards a desirable future and help Resilience Frontiers identify first-mover actions that will accelerate the journey towards that better world. Attendance is by invitation only.
- UN4NAPs Forum: UN4NAPs is a UN-wide technical backstopping initiative for National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), launched by the UNFCCC Secretariat in response to mandates for engaging UN and international organizations in support of climate change adaptation. It offers a platform for LDCs and small island developing States (SIDS) to access technical assistance from the wide UN and intergovernmental organization system, with over 45 active partners. At the UN4NAPs Forum, representatives from the LDCs and SIDS will share and discuss their technical assistance needs related to NAP formulation and implementation that can be addressed by one or several partner organizations.
- the 42nd meeting of the Least Developed Country (LDC) Expert Group (LEG 42): The LEG conducts two meetings every year. It will hold its 42nd meeting at the margins of the Botswana Global Adaptation Week. One of the key deliverables of the meeting is to finish the draft rules of procedure, as mandated by the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 26) to the UNFCCC (decision 15/CP.26, para. 19), for adoption by COP 27 and the fourth meeting of the COP serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 4). Attendance is by invitation only.
The Week is co-organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat and the Government of Botswana.
