Scaling up women’s access to climate technologies, practices, and adaptation finance to build community resilience

This session, organized by the Global Adaptation Network (GAN) and the Asia-Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) as part of the Gobeshona Global Conference, will explore key challenges and successes in scaling up women’s access to climate technologies, practices, and adaptation finance through initiatives and projects across the world:

• The EmPower project, implemented in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Vietnam, aims to strengthen women’s participation in decision-making processes, improve data and knowledge to integrate gender in climate and disaster risk reduction policies and enable women to use renewable energy for resilient livelihoods.
• The NANUM: Connected women project aims at empowering women as leaders of technological transformation for adaptation to climate change in the Gran Chaco Americano. This project builds on previous initiatives on connectivity and climate change adaptation (Gran Chaco Proadapt), in order to promote access to data and information for making climate-smart decisions, adaptive planning, and the mobilization of public and private investments to accelerate actions that reduce climate impacts.
• The Sudan EbA project is enhancing community resilience in Sudan by using Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) approaches. The project is restoring degraded ecosystems, establishing community farms and training women to diversify income sources, and supporting the revision of development plans to mainstream gender-sensitive adaptation.
• The Global Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Fund provides rapid and targeted support for innovative approaches to EbA to climate change. It supports initiatives to help overcome identified barriers to upscaling EbA by prioritizing filling in planning, knowledge, and resource gaps. The Fund encourages applications from non-traditional actors with innovative and impactful EbA initiatives for funding.
