Urban Voices: Nature-based Solutions for Inclusive and Climate-resilient Cities

This is an official side-event of the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2023.

This session will bring together reflexions related to the Urban and the Environmental agendas, showing how they are intertwined and how, though the implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in the processes of urban planning, effective pathways can be set towards more inclusive and resilient cities and communities, especially for the ones that are the most affected by climate change and environmental risk. It will emphasize the pressing need for cities, and in particular informal settlements, to engage in actions of adaptation to climate change due to their increased vulnerability, and it will recognize the potential of these territories for the generation of innovative solutions. It will be a platform to give voice to people living or acting in communities at risk across Central and Latin American cities, brought into the room through pre-recorded videos.

The session will feature an immersive experience with interactive exercises for participants to represent certain situations that these territories face, leading to reflect on human-rights that are impacted due to climate change impacts, acknowledging the differentiated impact that climate change has on urban populations. The speakers-moderators will comment and guide the session to highlight inclusive, gender transformative and impactful solutions.
