National Adaptation Plans are widely seen as one of the most important mechanisms for adapting to climate change. As of March 2023, 42  countries submitted their National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) as a means of identifying medium- and long-term adaptation needs. The global focus is increasingly shifting towards how these plans are being implemented.

The objective of this session at the NAP Expo 2023 is to facilitate knowledge exchange among country representatives on emerging experiences in scaling up adaptation through the NAP process, identifying relevant tools, frameworks and lessons learned. The session will be building on some of the discussions that took place during a similar session at NAP Expo 2022, titled From Planning to Action: NAP Implementation for a climate resilient development

At the end of the session, participants will have increased their understanding of:

  • Key factors that contribute to scaling up implementation of adaptation through NAP processes based on emerging experiences;
  • The potential barriers and solutions for effective implementation of adaptation under the NAP transformative and paradigm shifting adaptation projects and the strategic role of NAPs.process
  • Experiences of countries in designing transformative and paradigm shifting adaptation projects and the strategic role of NAPs.
