The Mercury waste management Area of the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership took place both in-person and in an online setting, on 20 September 2022 at 9:30-12:30 (Singapore time).

The main objective of the meeting was to discuss on the Workplans and consider synergies among Working Groups and cooperation with the Global Mercury Partnership Areas.

The UNEP Global Mercury Partnership and its areas of work on Mercury in Products and on Mercury Waste Management jointly organized on Tuesday 7 December 2021 an online information-sharing session dedicated to the phase out of  mercury-containing lamps.

The Mercury waste management Area of the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership met on Thursday 8 July 2021.

Amongst others, the meeting discussed the Partnership Area Activity Plan for the period 2021 – 2023 and the way forward to conduct planned activities. It was also an opportunity to exchange on the development of fact sheets for the environmentally sound management of mercury waste, as well as the development of a list of treatment facilities.

The Mercury waste management Area of the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership held its annual meeting on Monday 8 March 2021 in an online setting.

The meeting discussed the needs for mercury waste management technologies and services identified in a recently conducted online survey, and explored opportunities for future work. The meeting also considered the Partnership area's activity plan.

The Global Mercury Partnership participated in the webinar on Mercury material flow – waste, organized on 15 October 2020 as part of the Minamata online initiative from the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention.

Second event under the “mercury science” stream, this webinar shared available resources on mercury material flow with a focus on waste stream. Presentations were followed by a panel discussion on how to improve the knowledge on mercury material flow in waste stream.

The Mercury Waste Management Area of the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership held a members meeting on 6 October 2019 in Bilbao, Spain, back to back with the 2019 ISWA Congress.

The Waste Management Area Partnership Area (WMA) of the Global Mercury Partnership held a members meeting on 10th September 2018 in Vienna, Austria. The objective of the meeting was to:

1.     To review and evaluate each activity implemented under the WMA and identify achievements and challenges.

2.      To discuss ways forward for the Partnership and WMA and to develop a concrete action plan.
