Sur invitation de l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour le Développement Industriel (ONUDI), s’est tenu, du 08 au 10 décembre 2009 au Grand Hôtel de Bamako (Mali), l’Atelier sous- régional d’information des pays de l’Afrique de l’Ouest francophone sur les problèmes liés à l’orpaillage. Cet atelier a été organisé dans le cadre du Programme Mondial pour le Mercure du Programme des Nations Unies pour l’Environnement.

The workshop took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 4-5 March 2009. The Asian mercury storage project inception workshop aimed to reduce the eventual supply of mercury to the biosphere by initiating a regional process that will support the sequestration of excess mercury in the Asian region. The workshop was successful in the delivery of its objectives.
