PAG 9.1 - Provisional Agenda
The Waste Management Area Partnership Area (WMA) of the Global Mercury Partnership held a members meeting on 10th September 2018 in Vienna, Austria. The objective of the meeting was to:
1. To review and evaluate each activity implemented under the WMA and identify achievements and challenges.
2. To discuss ways forward for the Partnership and WMA and to develop a concrete action plan.
The Annual Meeting of the Coal Combustion Partnership Area has taken place on the final day of the 13th Multi-pollutant Emissions from Coal (MEC 13) workshop which was held in Krakow, Poland.
The meeting was the occasion to present an update of the continuing activities underway on the Coal Partnership Area. It included an update on the now completed projects in Southeast Asia as well as a discussion of proposed further projects in Asia, South America, Africa and Europe.
The UN Environment Global Mercury Partnership is undertaking activities to enhance national information exchange, capacity building and knowledge generation to facilitate the development of the UN Environment implemented National Action Plans(NAPs) for Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) . This is referred to as the NAP Global Component. As part of these activities, the regional workshop on “Developing a national overview of the Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining sector for NAP project” took place for the Asian countries working with UN Environment on their NAPs.

The 13th International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP) held in Providence, Rhode Island from 16 to 21 July 2017. Theme: “Integrating Mercury Research and Policy in a Changing World”.
The Mercury in Products partnership area is meeting face-to-face in Nairobi on 26 May aimed to provide information on the viability and availability of Minamata Convention compliant products that can and are used in place of mercury-added products; to share information on the common steps countries have often taken toward successfully phasing out/down listed mercury-added products; and to better understand the economies of scale, key drivers and other steps involved in transitioning from mercury-added products to convention compliant alternatives, including the critical role product manuf
As part of UN Environment Global Mercury Partnership support to the countries developing National Action Plans (NAPs) to reduce mercury use in Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining (ASGM); a regional African workshop on “Developing Baseline Estimates for the Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining sector: Introduction to the UN Environment toolkit” took place on 22 May 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop introduced a comprehensive and scalable methodology on how to generate ASGM baseline estimates for NAPs.
