This interactive guide synthesizes and connects existing information on mercury-free practices in the ASGM sector through simple graphs, videos and illustrative success stories.
Collecting field data is often necessary to prepare the national Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector overview. The United Nations Institute for Training and Research(UNITAR) has developed a mobile data collection tool to accompany the two methodologies developed by the Artisanal Gold Council (baseline estimates) and UNITAR (socio-economic research methodology).

The world’s nations adopted the Minamata Convention on Mercury to protect human health and the environment from mercury pollution. A good understanding of mercury supply, trade and demand is critical to effective implementation of the Convention.
In order to expand on the direction provided by the IGF’s Mining Policy Framework (MPF), IGF member states identified the need for more concrete guidance on managing key issues relating to mining and sustainable development.
