UNEP IETC Internship

Internships at UNEP IETC is a great opportunity for students and recent graduates who are interested in promoting and delivering environmentally sound waste management technologies.

The UNEP/IETC internship is for six (6) months.

Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

 

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the supervision of IETC officer the intern will:

1.Background research on various waste streams and policy frameworks related to waste management in countries with on-going and planned projects
2.Assist in developing surveys and collecting and analysing information.
3.Assist in developing publications by ensuring design and edits are properly implemented when communicating with publishing partners.
4.Working with database (such as excel sheets) to populate the information on various UN Environment IETC initiatives.
5.Assist IETC programme officer in following up with partners on the implementation of the project activities such as capacity building, development of action plan and pilot projects.
6.Draft minutes of meetings.
7.Support in the organisation of project related events, and stakeholders consultations
8.Format the project reports from partners in standard form.
9.Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree

Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Studies in Environmental Affairs preferred.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Japanese is desirable.
