Multi-stakeholder consultations, trainings & peer-exchanges for ambitious climate action
The Ghana NDC Action project is hosted by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with political guidance from the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI). The project is building on existing relevant processes and activities in the country (Ghana) to secure a multi-stakeholder and high-level engagement. Thus, avoiding duplication of effort and enabling the project to contribute more effectively to the country’s NDC implementation in the context of the development priorities. This is a stakeholder engagement and a risk reduction strategy given that actions will build on already established successes and on-going activities in the country.
To achieve the outcome, the project has employed a two-pronged approach involving both bottom-up (for non-state actors) and top-down (for state actors) stakeholder engagement exercises. This is being done to align with the existing structures where state actors primarily responsible for creating the enabling policy environment for implementation with non-state actions playing a critical role that generates much needed data and experiences to further refine policy implementation incentives. The end will be to inform clear investment trajectories for Ghana NDCs implementation driven through two prioritised sectors – clean energy and climate smart agriculture with specific actions in e-mobility and solar power irrigation. As such key agencies and ministries in the two sectors such as the Ministry of transport, Ministry of energy, Ministry of food and agriculture, the National Development Planning Commission, the Ghana Energy commission and the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority have been engaged to build consensus, garner support and exchange of information spearheaded by the National Project Coordinators including planned engagements with the National Climate Change Committee which oversees the implementation of the all climate change activities in the country.
