The Banana Industrial Research Development Centre (BIRDC), Agro Consortium, and Acre Africa jointly unveiled a Hybrid Index Insurance Solution in Uganda, made possible through the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator. This one-year pilot initiative is an outcome of the NDC Action project and aims to enhance resilience and facilitate climate change adaptation for smallholder farmers in the Bushenyi and Sheema districts.
The project launch took place at the BIRDC pilot factory plant in Bushenyi, with the distinguished presence of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bushenyi, Robert Atuhaire, and RDC of Sheema, Muhindo Pulkera, alongside various government officials. Additionally, leaders from the two piloting cooperatives and farmers from these cooperatives were actively engaged in the event.

- To build credibility: the launch aimed to establish the credibility of the pilot test, signaling to stakeholders that the project is meticulously planned, supported by reputable organizations with a view to provide long term support.
- To generate awareness and interest: the event served as a platform to create awareness about the project and generate interest among key stakeholders, fostering a deeper understanding of the Hybrid Index Insurance Solution and its potential impact.
- To facilitate networking: an integral part of the agenda was dedicated to fostering connections and networking opportunities. This allowed participants to engage with one another, exchange ideas, and build valuable relationships.
