The NDC Action Costa Rica project has successfully crafted the inaugural Methodology for developing roadmaps aimed at fostering the adaptation and decarbonization of organizations. This framework emphasizes the interconnections between adaptation and decarbonization, advocating for actions that mitigate vulnerability to the current and future impacts of climate change within Costa Rica and its various productive sectors.
The creation of roadmaps for decarbonization and adaptation enables a productive sector or organization to establish targets and actions for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhancing adaptation efforts. This Methodology serves as a guide for structuring the process of technological transformation towards low-emission and resilient development in industrial organizations. Additionally, it facilitates the documentation of climate benefits resulting from the transformation process.
The Methodology takes into account technical, financial, economic, and environmental aspects. Its implementation involves the incorporation of sectoral and national inputs, aiming to align policies at different levels of execution. Furthermore, its application allows for the comparison, traceability, and transparency of decarbonization and adaptation roadmaps for private sector organizations. These mixed methodologies, aside from reinforcing synergies at the sectoral and organizational levels, stand out globally.
Business Climate Roadmap Tool
As a crucial component of the Methodology, the Business Climate Roadmap Tool (HRCE) has been developed. The HRCE is a computational tool designed to streamline the creation of decarbonization and adaptation roadmaps for organizations or sectors. It integrates insights from studies on climate actions related to decarbonization and adaptation.
The Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica spearheaded the development of the HRCE tool, executed through a consultancy led by the Climate Lead Group, with the support of the Alianza Empresarial para el Desarrollo, and in collaboration with the NDC Action Costa Rica Project. The German Agency for International Cooperation - GIZ, through the ACCIÓN CLIMA Project, also played a supportive role in this initiative.
