A joint meeting was held, under the auspices of the The NDC Action Project, to discuss a concept note for climate resilient agriculture, specifically the implementation of a solar-powered drip irrigation system for arable farming.
The group consisted of various stakeholders, including donor organizations, development partners, international and local financial institutions, sectoral experts, researchers, and community representatives.
The purpose of the discussion was to identify collaborative solutions and potential funding sources to address the challenges outlined in the concept note. A key focus was on reducing the vulnerability of smallholder vegetable farmers to climate change through the promotion of solar irrigation and use of forest strips as an ecosystem-based adaptation approach in the Dundgobi and Uvurkhangai provinces of Mongolia.
This proposed ideas represent a novel approach to climate resilience in the agriculture sector in Mongolia. Following the presentation, participants engaged in a productive discussion, sharing their viewpoints and feedback. During the discussion, Batmunkh Batbold, Operations Officer at the IFC, highlighted the feasibility of combining the proposed concept with the short-term revolving credit facility developed by the World Bank to overcome the identified barriers.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue the conversation and work collaboratively towards developing actionable solutions that can benefit the entire agriculture sector and the country. The lively and productive discussion resulted in a range of ideas and comments for potential collaborations and improvements.
