In all the three priority sectors, a low level of consumer and producer awareness of the benefits of switching to green is a significant barrier to the adoption of sustainable consumption and production practices. There is also a need to raise awareness of viable financing options, particularly among micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and to raise the financial sector’s awareness of the need for sustainable financing and the financial benefits of green business development. Most MSMEs have the potential to generate greater income and employment from green strategies, and a lack of access to capital has been identified as their single greatest limiting factor.
In the tourism sector, there is a need to enhance awareness of sustainable tourism among enterprises outside the circle of the few large firms currently involved in that subsector. The issue of certification (eco-labelling and eco-rating schemes) is also important for promoting sustainable consumption and production practices in the industry.
To address these issues, the networking facility offers activities that allow stakeholders in the country to communicate and share experiences and best practices and that allow for the knowledge gained from project implementation to be distilled for application in upscaling and replication and the relevant policies to be taken up by a wide range of government actors.
