On International Day of Forests, the Cartagena Convention celebrates Mangrove Restoration in the Wider Caribbean Region
Healthy coral reefs are critical for sustaining local economies and livelihoods, particularly through supporting tourism. In the Caribbean alone, reef-associated tourism—including both on-reef and reef-adjacent activities—brings in over $7.9 billion from the more than 11 million visitors engaging in these activities every year.
In March 2023, the Republic of Panama will become the first Central American country to host the Our Ocean Conference. Under the theme Our Ocean…Our Connection, the Government of Panama will highlight the importance of knowledge as the basis of our actions and policies to ensure protection of our oceans, responsible management of marine resources, and sustainable future economic growth.
2022 marked 50 years since the United Nations Conference on the Environment. At the first special session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) commemorating fifty years since the establishment of the UNEP@50, countries discussed UNEP’s role in the Science-Policy Interface, reflecting on past successes and considering the challenges ahead.

OVERVIEW
From 13 – 14 December 2022, the Regional Eutrophication workshop will be held in Kingston Jamaica. Day 1 will consist of presentations and discussions at the office of the United Nations Environment Programme Cartagena Convention Secretariat, located at 14-20 Port Royal Street, Kingston. Activities on day 2 will involve a field trip to the parish of St. Ann.

The 3rd Project Steering Committee Meeting of the ACP MEAs III Programme will convene in Brussels, Belgium from 19th - 20th October 2022.

The GEF CReW+ Project, represented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), will launch (in-person) its Compendium of Sanitation Technologies on Tuesday 11th October 2022. The soft launch of the compendium was held virtually in June 2022.

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) in collaboration with our Global Environment Facility-funded (GEF) CReW+ project is organising workshops for young persons and the media on Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM).
The workshops will commence on 20th September 2022 and are open to Caribbean youths and journalists residing in GWP-C partner countries or Caribbean GEF CReW+ countries.
