The preparation of the sixth edition of the Global Environment Outlook involved various activities to bring experts and stakeholders together as well as update the world on the process as well as the progress of the report. The main objectives of the author meetings was to bring authors together to develop the drafts and address the comments from previous review processes. These meetings have also addressed issues on the structure and coherence across the different chapters. Advisory bodies have been engaged in the progress by addressing their concerns and implementing their advice during the four meetings.
The inception meeting of the sixth edition of the Global Environment Outlook took place in Frascati, Italy from February 20-24, 2017 where the first order draft of the assessment was realized.
Second Global Author's Meeting
The second authors (May 22-26, 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand) meeting focused on addressing comments from the review period of the First Order Draft and also allowed for extensive progress on preparation of the draft. The meeting featured an outreach event as well as a stakeholder workshop for the Outlooks chapters of the assessment.
The Third Global Authors Meeting of the Sixth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6) was held at the Nansha Grand Hotel in Guangzhou, China from 9 -14 October 2017. The meeting was co-organised by UN Environment and the China Southern (Nansha) International Cooperation Southern Centre with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China. Like the second global author's meeting in Bangkok, it also featured an outreach event, outlooks workshop and a field trip.
Fourth Global Author's Meeting
The fourth global author’s meeting of the sixth edition of the Global Environment Outlook was held at the Regent Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore from 19-23 February 2018. The meeting had an outreach event, visioning workshop and a field trip to match.The meeting was co-organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of Singapore and UN Environment.
Outlooks authors and assessment co-chairs met in Den Haag, The Netherlands to advance the drafting of several elements of the Outlooks chapters of the sixth Global Environment Outlook.
A selected group of the Policy Effectiveness authors met at the Freie Universitaet in Berlin to advance the drafting of several elements of the Policy Effectiveness chapters of the sixth Global Environment Outlook in preparation for the final Intergovernmental review process.
