UNEP presented the main findings of the sixth Global Environment Outlook at a 'noon talk' organized by the International Energy Agency. Participants included representatives of Directorates at the IEA, Energy Advisors and the International Patnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC). Issues discussed included;
- Whether or not it was feasible to remove 80% of fossil fuels from the energy mix by 2050.
- The likely policy pathways that might be needed to achieve this ambitious goals
- Whether there is likely to be a conflict between the large amounts of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCs) in the current IEA scenarios and the 50% more food needed. There seems to be a possible conflict over land use.
- How much better the data were for SDG indicators this time around compared with previous GEOs.
