UNEP was invited to present the main findings of the sixth Global Environment Outlook to a group of investors in Brussels on 1 October 2019. The UNEP presentation was combined with a presentation from the European Investment Bank, University College London and two firms working in the sustainability arena.
The main points made were:
- GEO-6 recommends transformational approaches be used to achieve systemic change in our energy, food and waste systems.
- The European Investment Bank is working to provide investment vehicles to support environmental sustainability initiatives across Europe and Central Asia.
- Group of experts are working through the European Union and the International Resource Panel to provide decision makers with pathways towards achieving transformational change in systems such as energy and waste.
- Incentives and market forces are making plastic recycling technologies more viable.
- Incentives and market forces are making end-use industrial energy efficiency more viable and affordable to the marketplace.
