UN Environment partnered with the Africa Network for Animal Welfare, one of the Civil Society Organisations accredited to UN Environment to co-host the "Africa Animal Welfare Conference- ACTION 2017" under the theme: The Nexus between Animal Welfare, Environment and Development: Safeguarding our Common Destiny.
The three day conference which was held on 2-4 October 2017 featured experts and participants from various areas such as animal welfare, conservation, pollution, food security from Africa and beyond, including NGOs, academicians, policy makers, private sector actors, opinion leaders, young African researchers and representatives from development organizations.
The Conference also featured a special session with updates and highlights on the preparation for the then upcoming Third Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, which took place in December 2017 under the theme "Towards a pollution-free planet".
