About the event As a legacy of Stockholm+50 UNEP, ILO and UNICEF/Generation Unlimited have joined forces to develop a “Green Jobs for Youth Pact,” calling on all actors to accelerate the creation of more and better jobs for youth. Working with and for young people, it is a bold and unique partnership for action to close the skills gap in developing countries, targeting climate-vulnerable and contributing to a systemic change harvesting benefits for people, the planet and prosperity.
During COP27, the Pact has been promoted through several events by the UN agencies and their key partners (including governments, social partners, youth, and the private sector), like the opening event on the 9th of November. The COP27 Side event on November 16th will bring both high-level speakers as well as national and operational experts. The event's purpose is to cover the youth employment and climate action nexus holistically from global policy perspectives to national lessons learned.
About the Pact
Click on the visual to watch the introduction about the Pact. ILO, UNICEF - GenU and UNEP will work along their member states, employers, workers' organizations and educators to tackle the youth and green jobs deficit based on three simple ingredients: Employment and Entrepreneurship, Environmental education, Empowerment and youth partnerships to make the transition to a low-carbon, circular and nature-positive economy. The Pact builds on existing initiatives such as the Global Accelerator of Green Jobs and Social Protection, Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth, Generation Unlimited’s entrepreneurship programme imaGen Ventures and the Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs).
The COP 27 side event is a unique opportunity to launch the Green Jobs for Youth Pact and enhance collaboration between governments, youth, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and educators working together to promote a just transition by strengthening capacities and skills, for youth, needed to deliver an economic and social transformation in a 1.5-degree world.
