Background

The Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Health and the Environment (APRFHE), established in 2004, is a regional intergovernmental platform involving ministers of health and ministers of environment that seeks to create greater synergy to address environment and health issues.

Indonesia, as the current Chair of the APRFHE, will host the Fifth Ministerial Meeting and Twelfth High Level Officials Meeting of the Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Health and Environment which will be held from 24 to 26 September 2024, in collaboration with the international secretariat comprised of the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO), WHO South-East Asia Regional Office (SEARO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Asia Pacific Office.

This forum provides a platform for regional cooperation and collaboration to address key health and environment issues at the regional and country levels in terms of 1) sharing knowledge and experiences; 2) advocating for measures, policies and actions to protect the health and well-being caused by environmental risk factors; and 3) to promote other sectors such as transport, education, energy, trade and others to place the health of people at the heart of the Sustainable Development Goals and other international conventions and regional initiatives.
