On August 12, 2024, International Youth Day was celebrated with an inspiring hybrid event at the UN Office in Nairobi. The event was a collaborative effort by UN Kenya, including the International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UN-Habitat, and supported by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA),

The event, which brought together over 100 youth participants in-person and remotely, highlighted the vital role of young people in driving digital pathways for sustainable development. Through engaging thematic discussions, focused on skills and jobs in the era of digitalization, youth-led innovative digital solutions for environmental causes, and sustainable urban future, participants presented impactful projects and ideas, emphasizing the transformative power of digitalization in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key outcomes included fostering meaningful partnerships between youth and stakeholders across civil society, private sector and UN agencies, and promoting knowledge exchange on best practices in youth-led digital responses to global challenges.

A special thank you to our distinguished guests for their invaluable support: UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Marinheiro Centeno Rossbach, UNEP's Ecosystem Division Director, Susan Gardner, UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya, Dr. Stephen Jackson, and Chief, Knowledge and Innovation Branch at UN-Habitat Edlam Abera Yemeru.

Together, we are empowering the next generation to lead the change toward a sustainable future.
