19th Annual Meeting of the All India Network Programme on Organic Farming (AI-NPOF) held in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India
AI-NPOF is a programme run by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to promote organic farming in India with 20 collaborating centres across India covering 16 Indian States. The objective of the 19th Annual Meeting was to discuss the management of ecosystem services through the promotion of organic and natural farming systems.
- The Framework for Assessment of Ecosystem Services in Organic and Natural Farming Systems was released by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at the meeting.
- The Framework recommends the use of The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity for Agriculture and Food (TEEBAgriFood) approach for the assessment of ecosystem services in organic and natural farming systems in India
TEEBAgriFood is an offshoot of the TEEB Initiative, hosted by UNEP. In India, since 2019, UNEP has been working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW), Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and ICAR institutions on TEEBAgriFood evaluations focused on assessing the benefits and trade-offs of scaling organic farming and agroforestry interventions in India.
- TEEBAgriFood framework has been mainstreamed into the All India Network Programme on Organic Farming (AI-NPOF) by ICAR.
- Assessments undertaken by collaborating centres across India under AI-NPOF will utilize the TEEBAgriFood approach
