When: 18-20 April 2023 Where: Belize City - Ramada Belize City Princess Hotel, Newton Barracks Rd
In the framework of the Regional Environmental Forum held by SICA Member States on 17-21 April in Belize City, SICA/CCAD, with the support of GIZ and UNEP, is organizing the regional technical exchange on waste management: Towards zero waste through new circular economy policies: Central America and Caribbean regional technical exchange, to which technical representatives of the projects Caribe Circular and Zero Waste in the Caribbean will be invited to participate.
The regional technical exchange will be held on 18, 19 and 20 April, and will address key issues for integrated waste management and the circular economy from the perspective of regional cooperation, such as regional harmonization of waste management legislation, regional lessons learned and best practices to foster public-private partnerships (through extended producer responsibility practices), information-based decision making (with indicators and data on waste management), or the most effective models to move from formulation to implementation of plans and policies (especially national and regional marine litter plans). In addition, it will seek to strengthen regional cooperation links in the field to consolidate the results of the technical exchange.
Integrated solid waste management has been defined as an environmental priority in the Central American and Caribbean region. Also, both subregions have agreed to cooperation on a range of common areas of interest, including South-South cooperation and exchange of best practices.
