Overview

To meet the 1.5 degrees Celsius target of the Paris Agreement, the introduction and accelerated adoption of new energy vehicles & electric vehicles is paramount, especially in low- and middle-income countries, where most of the future vehicle fleet growth is expected to take place. This virtual webinar seeks to address obstacles and propose solutions for a sustainable transformation of the transport sector and the shift towards electric mobility.

During this webinar, the UN Environment Programme will be launching the Global Electric Mobility Programme, which is currently supporting more than 50 low and middle-income countries around the world with the shift to electric mobility. Together with partners, the programme has mobilized 70 million USD in grants and over 250 million USD in loans for national electric mobility projects. For example, the recently added GEF e-mobility programme is funding 29 country projects and the global support project.

The country project activities include the development of capacity, policies, business models and finance schemes to accelerate the uptake of e-mobility. Technical assistance is complemented by demonstrations of electric vehicles to generate the needed on-the-ground experience with the technology. The country projects will be supported through Global Working Groups providing knowledge products and e-mobility advocacy and Regional Support and Investment Platforms creating communities of practice and e-mobility marketplaces.

Organizers & Speakers

This virtual event has been co-organized by the UN Environment programme and World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC). The World New Energy Vehicle Conference (WNEVC), focusing on the transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry and ecological environment improvement, will bring together global experts and industry elites to share their insights and discuss development trends and innovations of NEVs, such as technologies, industry ecosystem, government policies and business models. It also aims to build industry consensus, clarify growth direction, and identify effective pathway of integrated development of electrification, intelligence, connectivity and shared mobility.
