The upcoming 2024 High-Level Meeting at the UN General Assembly is a pivotal opportunity for world leaders to agree on an inspiring vision, commitments, and actions to save lives; protect countries from the growing impacts of AMR on human health, agrifood system, animals, plants, and the environment; and ensure that effective antimicrobials are available and affordable when needed for current and future generations.
Engaging journalists and other media actors in different countries to brief them on AMR and the importance of the upcoming UNGA High-Level Meeting on AMR could be a strategic activity. We propose to host a Global Media Briefing in lead up to the UNGA HLM on AMR. This is likely to increase in-country media coverage on AMR and encourage journalists and other media actors to call upon their governments for stronger commitments on AMR at the upcoming UNGA High-Level Meeting.
The Global AMR Media Alliance (GAMA) will host a virtual/online Global Media Briefing in lead up to UNGA HLM on AMR with the following objectives:
- To raise awareness on AMR and its impact on global health security and sustainable development
- To increase media understanding that AMR impacts human health, animal health, agriculture and environment
- To increase in-country media engagement around UNGA High-Level Meeting on AMR
