Welcome to the forefront of environmental change!

The United Nations Environment Programme - Regional Office for West Asia (UNEP ROWA) is launching the Regional Consortium on Science for Environmental Policy. With a focus on fostering science-policy integration, this pioneering initiative aims to tackle critical challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution.

The Regional Consortium serves as a pivotal platform within the West Asia region with a clear mission:

  1. Empower governments and stakeholders across West Asia to shape science-driven policies that target pressing environmental concerns.
  2. Elevate West Asia's role in global environmental science and policy development.

Diving into key areas such as Climate Change, Biodiversity, Waste and Pollution, Air Quality, Coastal and Marine Environment, Land Resources, and Water Resources, the Consortium aims for transformative impact. To ensure broad participation, we extend an open invitation to experts from the West Asia region.

The planned activities include establishing partnerships with regional universities to create regular policy briefs aligned with West Asia's environmental priorities, as well as developing foundational guidelines, monitoring environmental trends, and holding scientific seminars to disseminate knowledge about the fusion of science and policy.

Our dedicated steering committee will carefully review all submissions, and select members, based on the following criteria:

  • Expertise in the specified West Asia areas.
  • Recognized standing in the global research community.
  • Active involvement and demonstrated expertise in the mentioned fields, with published or accepted research in peer reviewed international scientific journals.

Selected consortium members will act independently in advisory roles, representing neither specific entities nor interests.
