The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Resource Panel (IRP) are inviting all media to cover the global launch of the Resource Efficiency and Climate Change: Material Efficiency Strategies for a Low-Carbon Future summary for policymakers, at a side event hosted by the Italian Ministry of the Environment at COP 25.
This report, commissioned by the G7, analyzes the contributions of resource efficiency to greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions. Results from this assessment will help raise awareness about the critical role of material efficiency strategies in climate mitigation plans and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). This will be the first time that these connections are scientifically drawn at the global level.
The launch event will be open to all media accredited at COP.
- Location: Italian Pavilion
- Time and Date: 11 December 2019, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (CET)
Expected outcomes:
- Knowledge and policy exchange on the linkages between natural resources and climate change.
- Insights and discussion on the GHG abatement potential of material efficiency strategies, particularly in the vehicle and residential housing sectors and how to embed these into relevant climate mitigation policies.
Media will be able to access the summary for policymakers and press release under embargo prior to the event. Report’s authors and experts are available for pre-briefings upon request.
