About

The Brazil–China Researchers' Symposium on Forests and Nature will bring together leading researchers and policy experts from both countries to address the role of forests in tackling climate change and biodiversity loss. Set in the lead-up to COP30 and the BRICS Summit, the event will focus on advancing joint research and policy approaches that link forest protection with sustainable development.

The symposium will examine the intersection of forests with key sectors—urban planning, agriculture, finance, and public engagement—while exploring Brazil’s bioeconomy vision and China’s ecocivilization framework. It aims to develop concrete proposals for science-based policymaking and foster long-term academic cooperation between Brazil and China.

Key Themes

  • Forests and People- How can public attitudes, education, and community engagement be strengthened to support forest conservation?
  • Forests and Cities- What role can urban planning play in integrating forest protection and sustainable resource use?
  • Forests, Food and Agriculture- What policies and research are needed to align agricultural systems with climate and forest goals?
  • Forests and Finance- How can finance mechanisms—including REDD+, carbon markets, and the Tropical Forest Forever Fund—drive forest-positive outcomes?
