• Overview

Date: 20 November 2024

Time: 12:00 - 13:15 AZT

Location: Global Renewables Hub, Blue Zone, COP29, Baku, Azerbaijan

This is an official side-event of the UNFCCC COP29.

Organizers: UNEP, IRENA

Description: The global transition towards a sustainable energy future requires a holistic approach that integrates key energy subsectors. Linking transport sector electrification with national renewable energy targets ensures that the energy used for e-mobility comes from clean and sustainable sources. This connection between transport and renewable energy integration holds particular significance for SIDS, given their vulnerability to climate change, dependence on fossil fuel imports, and unique geographic and economic challenges.

This event will focus on how e-mobility and renewable energy can be synergized to support Small Island Developing Nations (SIDS) in addressing their energy security, climate goals, and sustainable development priorities. The participating island countries will showcase how they are decarbonising transport with variable renewable energy supply integration and developing innovative business models to attract climate finance. This event is co-hosted by UNEP and the International Renewable Energy Agency.
