• Overview

UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) provides open, reliable, and actionable data to the individuals with the agency to reduce methane emissions. IMEO’s methane science studies support and promote actions from governments, industries, and other stakeholders by enabling targeted mitigation informed by emissions measurements.

This workshop is part of the Nigeria Methane Emission Reduction Pilot Programme (NiMERP), a project funded by the EU Delegation to Nigeria and implemented by IMEO in collaboration with the Government of Nigeria. NiMERP aims to assess methane emissions across multiple sectors in Nigeria while building local capacity for methane measurement and mitigation.

During this inaugural NiMERP workshop, IMEO and international partners will deliver tailored content to strengthen participants' capacity to address methane emissions using robust Measuring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) methodologies based on empirical data. The training will aim to extend knowledge to audiences who have previously been under-engaged on methane in Nigeria and will leverage real-world case studies to illustrate data-to-action pathways.
