Description:

The MENA region is undergoing an urbanization transformation. Climate change and growing urbanization are intertwined megatrends. Rising global temperatures have caused extreme weather events including flash floods, storms, droughts, and heatwaves in cities; with the most vulnerable being hit the hardest.

Cities in the region can be at the center of a sustainable and resilient future if integrated climate solutions at the local level are accelerated – ranging from scaling up renewable energy, sustainable building materials, nature-based solutions and low carbon mobility solutions.

City leaders, national governments and climate experts will discuss what it takes to accelerate climate solutions in cities through multilevel governance and multi-stakeholder partnerships. This will be critical to transforming MENA cities to be healthy, sustainable and resilient urban systems and build better livelihoods and services, create socio-economic opportunities while delivering the targets of the Paris Agreement.
