Time: 12:00- 13:00 AZT

Location: Faith Pavilion

This is an official event of the UN Faith Pavilion of the UNFCCC COP29.

Organizer: UNEP

Description: Forests are essential to tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation, yet efforts to harness their full potential remain fragmented. This event will focus on aligning actions under the three Rio Conventions—UNFCCC, CBD, and UNCCD—to place forests at the center of global nature-based solutions.

The event will feature discussions with the heads of the Rio Conventions, key country representatives, and civil society leaders, all exploring how to align actions under these frameworks. The event will also feature voices from local communities and faith leaders, discussing the cultural and spiritual importance of forests. By integrating environmental, social, and ethical dimensions, this session aims to highlight forests as crucial to not only global climate goals but also to preserving cultural identities and community resilience. With light refreshments available, the setting will encourage open dialogue and idea exchange.

The goal is to showcase successful, integrated nature-based initiatives, explore opportunities for further collaboration, and identify ways to align financial flows with solutions that address the cultural, social, and economic aspects of forest protection. The emphasis will be on leveraging existing financial mechanisms and developing new ones to support sustainable and equitable outcomes for both people and nature.

Leaders and high-level representatives from countries such as Costa Rica, India, and Nigeria will join the Rio Conventions' leaders to demonstrate their commitment to integrated nature-based actions and inspire progress towards a sustainable future.
