The World Environment Situation Room (WESR) is a federated data system of the best openly accessible environmental data, information, and knowledge with adequate analytical capacity, to support decision making, policy setting, and action at the global, regional, national, and local levels for the environment and sustainable development.
The WESR is designed as a UNEP@50 initiative for the next 50 years with the following focus:
- Reinvigorating global multilateralism and streamlining environmental governance by promoting inclusive, networked, and effective action, by providing credible and independent data, information, and knowledge on the environment
- Using dynamic digital tools and real time information to promote advocacy on the global environment, accelerate action on climate change, biodiversity and nature loss, chemicals, and pollution, and bringing more transparency to knowledge of the state of our environment at the global, regional, and national levels
- Leveraging capacity building with national level impact and promoting strategic foresight on emerging issues and measuring progress of the state of world environment and impact of People actions on Places and Planet
