Background

Air pollution is the largest environmental risk to public health globally. While progress has been made to tackle the air pollution crisis, it is uneven. Capacity and financing gaps hold countries back from making further gains. National air pollution management agencies consistently identify a lack of resources as a significant barrier to taking action on air pollution.

Inaction on air pollution is costly, not just for human health but also for economies and climate. Unlocking resources and innovative pathways for air pollution management therefore offers cost-effective, win-win opportunities for cleaner air, climate action and better human health. 2024 will be an important year for clean air action. To prepare for this, UNEP with support from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), will convene development partners, multilateral organizations, businesses, philanthropies and other partners to identify needs and opportunities to leverage resources for clean air.

Join us and share your experiences and insights on:

  • Successful actions to create a stronger enabling environment for future funding and financing
  • Untapped resources that can be accessed to catalyze global action on air pollution
  • Innovative resource mobilization pathways, including from climate finance and private sector
  • Next steps and opportunities to convene further discussions in 2024

At the same time, companies are very well placed to bring enormous resources of innovation, dynamism, scale, finance, influence and expertise to joint efforts with government and other stakeholders to tackle the air pollution crisis.
