The "Saida as an Environmentally Sustainable City" initiative aims to address the environmental challenges faced by the city of Saida and to establish it as a model for environmentally sustainable cities which follows the analysis presented in UNEPs Sixth Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-6), highlighting cities’ potential to drive progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the 2030 Agenda.
This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development, the Federation of Municipalities of Saida - El Zahrani, and under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment of Lebanon, aims to implement the GEO for Cities model and gather lessons learned.
This event will showcase Saida's journey towards a sustainable and resilient city. By highlighting the collaborative efforts of stakeholders, the event will foster knowledge exchange, and encourage the replication of similar approaches to address climate adaptation challenges and opportunities. It will highlight the collaborative efforts of key stakeholders, including the Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development, the Federation of Municipalities of Saida - El Zahrani, and the Ministry of Environment of Lebanon, in implementing the GEO for Cities model in Saida.
