The Second Indigenous Knowledge and Local Knowledge Dialogue for the Seventh Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7) assessment took place in Oaxaca, Mexico from 11th to 13th June 2024.
The meeting was co-hosted by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). During the dialogue, IK & LK taskforce members worked with Indigenous Peoples, including Youth, Elders and representatives of Indigenous Organizations to discuss ways to fill the gaps of IK & LK and co-create content for the Second Order Draft of GEO-7 in preparation for the Intergovernmental and expert review process in October and November 2024.
The dialogues were conducted in Spanish with English and French interpretation. The outcomes of the dialogue were used to include an Indigenous perspective in the second-order draft of the GEO-7, which will be sent for the Intergovernmental and expert review in October and November 2024.
