Date: Wednesday 6 September 2023
Time: 3:30pm- 4:30pm EAT
Location: Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC)
This is an official side-event of the Africa Climate Week 2023.
Enhancing the development, transfer and uptake of technology is a key pillar of the international response to climate change. Developing countries’ efforts to conduct effective TNAs and implement their prioritized technologies, has become instrumental to the UNFCCC implementation efforts. Since 2009, the UNEP led, GEF-funded, Global Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project has supported more than 30 countries in the African region, the objective being to assess countries’ technology needs in relation to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
During this event, country representatives will discuss the TNAs and their ability to provide information about the potential, ability, and scale of climate change technologies, with a special focus on energy systems transformations. We will also discuss how to enhance implementation of Technology Action Plans, which countries prepare for priority technologies through the TNA process.
