Where: Pavilion of the Congo Basin Climate Commission (CCBC) & Blue Fund for the Congo Basin (F2BC) | Register
Organizers: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Sustainable Development and the Congo Basin (Republic of Congo).
What: The conservation and restoration of degraded peatlands is fundamental to achieving climate goals of decarbonation and adaptation; thus, further scientific research and monitoring of these ecosystems is needed.
This event aims to bring together leaders and experts from the Congo Basin countries to exchange on Africa's common vision for the sustainable management of its peatlands - the world's largest carbon reservoir - to identify political and technical opportunities for collaboration.
Data processing tools (remote sensing, mapping, field analysis), strategic policy mechanisms (Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long Term (NDCs) and Long Term Strategies (LTS), as well as good practices and international and sub-regional experiences, are references for identifying concrete opportunities that will help define priority actions for the Congo Basin countries in the fight against climate change and the promotion of sustainable development in peatland areas.
