This joint UNFCCC and UNEP side event features high-level opening remarks and a presentation of the key findings of the UNEP Emissions Gap Report 2021 with a preliminary assessment of the implications of the recent announcements made by countries. This is followed by a panel discussion on the implications of the new announcements made during the leaders' summit, opportunities for enhancing ambition and accelerating action, the imperative of aligning NDCs for 2030 with net-zero emissions by mid-century, and more.
