• Overview

When: Sunday 03 December at 11:45-12:30 (GST)

Where: UNEP Pavilion (Zone B7, Building 87), COP28

This event features key findings from the Emissions Gap Report 2023. Discussions will focus on what we need from the Global Stocktake (GST) and negotiations to bridge the emissions gap in 2030 and beyond, enable energy transitions across regions and address carbon dioxide removal issues.

The 14th edition of UNEP’s Emission Gap Report provides an updated assessment of the gap between where we are heading in terms of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and where we need to be in 2030 and in 2035 to get on track towards the temperature goal of the Paris Agreement of limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels, preferable 1.5 degrees. This year’s report also features a deep dive on energy transitions in low- and middle-income countries and looks at the role of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in achieving the Paris Agreement temperature goal.
