Organized by the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network, this webinar is the fourth of a series of webinars for regional climate change adaptation practitioners and policymakers on the important outcomes and themes emerging out of COP 26. The first three webinars focused on Locally-Led Adaptation, Loss and Damage, and Nature-Based Solutions.
The webinar aims to enhance regional adaptation practitioners' and policymakers’ knowledge and understanding of the Global Goal of Adaptation. The Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), an important aspect of the Paris Agreement (Article 7.1) was established to enhance adaptive capacity, strengthen resilience, and reduce vulnerability to climate change, with a view to contributing to sustainable development and ensuring an adequate adaptation response in the context of the temperature goal.
At COP 26, Parties considered it a priority to move the adaptation goal forward and come up with a concrete operational plan. Despite the many differences in views, progress was made in Glasgow and in the second week of COP, the Glasgow–Sharm- El- Sheikh (GlaSS) work program on the GGA (2022-2023) emerged to support achieving the GGA. Now mid-way into the GlaSS work program on the GGA, we will hear more about its progress and the recent decision made at COP 27 concerning its future and that of the GGA.
There will be an opportunity for the participants to pose questions to the regional and international experts invited on this occasion.
