Under the umbrella of the UN Decade, The UNEP Regional Office for West Asia (UNEP-ROWA) and the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (FAO-RNE) are pleased to present a series of webinars in partnership with Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI). The webinars cover multiple topics related to Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration, with the following objectives: to raise awareness on the need for solutions to common problems of degradation and destruction of ecosystems in the Middle East and North Africa region; to strengthen knowledge dissemination by sharing and exchanging best restoration practices; to enhance capacities; and to build a community of practice in the region over the Decade and beyond. They are presented and hosted by conservation and restoration experts and specialists.

The first webinar, held on June 9, 2022, covers the “Biodiversity assessment tools in ecological restoration planning”. This webinar highlights the importance of biodiversity assessment, including for flora and fauna, and the use of non-invasive biodiversity assessment methods to support the development of conservation and restoration plans, while sharing examples from LRI’s implemented projects.

Did you know that Jordan offers unique biodiversity and ecosystems? With about 88% of Jordan being desert with less than 1% forested regions, Jordan has a flora of 2,531 vascular plant species, being a hotspot for medicinal plants, ornamentals, crops and crop wild relatives.

Call to action:

The need to share knowledge and projects on the regional level is now highly important to work jointly on conserving MENA’s unique biodiversity!
