While research, societal awareness and actions have long focused on marine plastics, the vast majority of marine plastics originate from land-based sources. Please join this launch event to learn more about plastics in freshwater bodies/ecosystems and why the harmonization of monitoring methods will allow for synthesis of data and will provide knowledge of transport processes, loads and impacts of plastic debris in freshwater bodies/ecosystems, that can be used to monitor water quality and also strengthen evidence base for guiding effective policymaking, and what are the next steps to put them in practice.
Panel Speakers:
- Dr. Katrin Wendt-Potthoff – UFZ
- Prof. Toyin Arowolo, Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, Federal University of Agriculture
- Prof. Dr. Alex Turra, University of São Paulo Oceanographic Institute
- Dr. Denise Hardesty - CSIRO
