In the framework of the XXII Meeting of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean, held from February 1-2, 2021 in Bridgetown, Barbados, recognizing the role of biodiversity and healthy ecosystems in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the lags in the fulfillment of the goals of the Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the report on the state of biodiversity and ecosystem services of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), among others, adopts in Decision 4, the Plan of Action of the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration in Latin America and the Caribbean.
As part of the follow-up and support for the implementation of the Action Plan, together with the Government of Costa Rica, in its capacity as Pro-Tempore President of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Biodiversity Working Group of this Forum was convened with the main objective of coordinating the actions planned for 2022 by UNEP, Report progress and obtain inputs for the preparation of a support roadmap for 2023.
