• Overview

The world's mountain regions are particularly vulnerable to the unprecedented speed and magnitude of climate change, underlining the urgency to develop and implement practical solutions for monitoring and adaptation. Strengthening cooperation, knowledge exchange and mutual learning are at the core for concerted action to increase the resilience of mountain communities and ecosystems to climate change.

The event is hosted and jointly organized by Austria, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Alpine Convention and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

We will welcome high level representatives of the hosting organisations for their opening remarks and enjoy a keynote on the latest scientific facts from the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate on climatic changes in high mountain areas.

The Panel with Representatives of the world's largest mountain regions will exchange on policy approaches for addressing the most pressing climate change impacts and risks and share practical solution on climate change adaptation from the Alps, the Andes, the Carpathians, the Caucasus, the Himalayas and East Africa. Following the main theme of COP25, the panel will also address the impacts of the recent global climate youth movement.
