  • Workshop Sessions Overview

Background

Indonesia is committed to decarbonizing its transportation sector as part of its broader strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Rapid urbanization and economic growth have increased vehicle usage, contributing to higher levels of air pollution and carbon emissions. The country is exploring sustainable mobility solutions, focusing on active mobility and electric mobility to enhance urban livability and environmental sustainability.

This workshop features two main components:

  • Electric Mobility and Gender: Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this component focuses on ensuring a gender-transformative transition to electric mobility.
  • Active Mobility: Part of the Alliance for Cycling and Walking Towards International Vitality and Empowerment (ACTIVE) programme, this component is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The ACTIVE programme has conducted similar workshops globally, including in India, Ghana, Rwanda, Colombia, and Thailand.

Key Objectives

  • Support the implementation of existing low-emission plans and strategies through knowledge sharing and capacity building.
  • Encourage the identification of new opportunities through mapping exercises, workshop activities, and collaborative discussions.
  • Address gender imbalances in the electric mobility sector to ensure a just and inclusive transition.
  • Promote the integration of active mobility (walking and cycling) with public transport to reduce emissions and improve urban livability

Participants: National and city-level authorities, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), Clean Air Asia, Walk21 Foundation, development partners, NGOs, and various stakeholders from across Indonesia.
