This comprehensive three-day workshop hosted by UNEP, in collaboration with WHO and key regional partners, aims to strengthen capacity for wastewater surveillance across Southern Africa. This event will gather representatives from 14 Southern African countries to discuss sustainable wastewater surveillance systems for public and environmental health. It is organized under the framework of the "Wastewater Surveillance for Africa Initiative”, supported by the European Union’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA).
The workshop will focus on knowledge exchange, harmonized strategies, capacity building, and innovation in wastewater monitoring, with discussions on tackling land-based pollution, disease outbreak preparedness, and environmental protection.
This event will also support the development of a regional roadmap and capacity needs assessment to foster ongoing collaboration and coordinated action within Southern Africa.
