Strengthening the institutional capacity of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the implementation of the Basel and the Stockholm conventions and GHS, as well as facilitate the accession to the Rotterdam and the Minamata conventions
Project Summary
In light of the current scale and trends of the international circulation of chemical products, including their production and use , as well as the need to implement the relevant commitments undertaken by Uzbekistan, the strengthening of the institutional capacity of all stakeholders in the sound management of chemicals in necessary. The present project aims to improve national legislation targeting the strengthening of the institutional framework and coordination on the sound management of chemicals and waste in industrial, agricultural and consumption sectors. This will involve the development of a package of draft regulatory legal acts, updating of the outdated electronic monitoring database of chemicals in commerce and capacity building for relevant stakeholders.
Project Objectives
The objective of the project is:
- the establishment of an inter-agency coordination mechanism on chemicals and the development of a national regulatory framework to strengthen national regulation on chemicals and waste management.
- the establishment of an Information and Resource Center for exchange of information on chemicals and waste and the strengthening of inter-agency reporting on chemicals.
- conducting capacity building activities on the sound management of chemicals, including POPs, for relevant stakeholders.
